International aid continues to be one of the biggest losers in the Federal Budget with little response to growing gender inequality and impacts of the climate crisis and conflict
Global women’s rights organisation ActionAid Australia welcomes a small aid budget increase, but says Australia is failing to respond to growing crisis and instability in the world. Despite the nominal aid increases announced in the 2024-25 budget, Australian aid has stagnated at 0.19 percent of Gross National Income (GNI). Budget response: Failure to adequately invest in community legal centres sends sector message to consider future of programs
Community Legal Centres Australia has described the Federal Government’s failure to make a sufficient investment in community legal centres for 2024-25, or to commit to ongoing legal assistance funding via the forward estimates, as a message to community legal centres to start planning to wind down programs and services over the year ahead. Federal Budget delivers some comfort for families fleeing Gaza crisis
New funding announced in this week’s Federal Budget will offer much needed support to families fleeing the conflict in Gaza, many of whom are currently at risk of homelessness and poverty, according to non-profit organisation, Settlement Services International (SSI), which provides human services to around 50,000 people a year. SSI welcomed the Federal Budget announcement of a $900k injection to extend Medicare eligibility to 30 June 2025 for Bridging Visa E holders arriving from affected areas of Israel and Palestine. Record funding for ARENA to supercharge Australia’s net zero transition
